The Event
Held over the Labour Day long weekend, the Moomba Festival took place on Thursday 7 March to Monday 11 March 2024. The event encompasses a number of drawcard events centred around the Yarra River.
Our Work
Our transport team prepared a Transport Management Plan detailing transport requirements and operational information that incorporated traffic and crowd management measures.
The plan was prepared following extensive consultation with the City of Melbourne, the Department of Transport and Planning, public transport operators and relevant stakeholders, under the direction of Momentum Event Management Pty Ltd.
The plan outlined several inclusions for public safety and event management including road closures, bicycle treatments, towaway zones, traffic detours for vehicles and variable message signs to provide advanced warning signage of road closures throughout the key events including the Moomba Carnival, Birdman Rally, Moomba Fireworks. The Moomba parade was unfortunately cancelled due to the heat. Our team is proud of their affiliation with the major Melbourne event.
