The brewery sought to formalise an extension to the existing Torquay site.

Our planning team worked with Council to provide a better response to neighbourhood character for the venue.

The Project

Independently owned Blackman’s Brewery is a Surf Coast fixture, brewing and canning their product selection on site in Torquay.

The Brewery’s application sought to formalise an extension to the site following their use of the adjoining site using emergency COVID provisions.

The Brewery is located in a commercial zone where entertainment uses are encouraged, however, it has two interfaces to the residential zone (north and east).

Our Work

Ratio’s planning team prepared the application, negotiated with Council and achieved a permit which allowed Blackman’s Brewery Bar to continue operating from the site.

The standard amenity impacts arising from noise were a concern and were satisfactorily addressed by Clarity Acoustics consultants.

Our transport team justified a waiver of spaces in a location which experiences high demand for spaces in peak summer months.
