The Project
Paper cups, such as takeaway coffee cups, cannot be recycled in our standard recycling service due to their interior plastic lining.
Melton City Council engaged our team to design and implement a coffee cup recycling trial at 6 locations around Melton. The major change initiative aims to not only increase the recycling rates of these products but also demonstrate to community members how we can make a positive impact by implementing this change in our daily activities.
Simply Cups recycles all brands of paper cups including coffee cups, takeaway soft drink cups and ice-cream, into various useful products. These products include building materials, wheel stops, and fenceposts.
Our Work
Our circular economy team designed and implemented the trial, using ‘Simply Cups’ stations at 6 locations across Melton, coordinating with Sustainable Solutions Now, Simply Cups, and other stakeholders on behalf of Council.
This project required our team to adapt as the trial evolved, researching and procuring additional services. Notably, they coordinated the production of an animation explaining the trial and its purpose to the community.
