The Development
The Vietnamese Museum Australia (VMA) is a four-story building approximately 18.9 metres tall hosting up to 450 patrons daily.
The building will be built on the Barkly Street site, with a pedestrian link between Donald Street and Hugh Street. The structure will pay tribute to the rich stories of more than 110,000 Vietnamese refugees arriving in Australia between 1975 and 1995.
Our Work
Ratio’s Transport and Waste Management teams were privileged to contribute to the culturally significant project on a largely pro bono basis.
Our Transport team provided design input to the car parking and loading arrangements, and undertook a detailed car parking demand analysis to support the reduction in car parking associated with the proposal which was ultimately supported by Council. The vehicle access to the site was from a laneway that is shared by residential dwellings. Our advice ensured that the operation of the car parking and loading area did not adversely impact the operation and safety of the access to these dwellings.
Our Waste Management team provided the project team with design recommendations for the ground-level bin storage and prepared a Waste Management Plan to accompany the Town Planning Application. The proposed waste management system for the development involved general waste, commingled recycling, organics, and glass collection bins, and a dedicated hard waste/e-waste storage area.
