The new facility will expand Synnex operations by 50 percent as it adopts the latest in logistic technology.

The head office and distribution centre will employ 300 people once operational.

The Development

The new Synnex Australia Head Office & Distribution Centre features an automated vertical racking system stored within a 34-metre-high structure which allows for products to be stored and recalled for distribution via tracking data.

This will allow continued efficiency for the storage and dispatch of products for retail partners.

Our Work

Ratio’s Planning team consulted on the impressive development with the design stage kicking off in early 2021. A key consideration in the design stage was the placement of the structure that would support the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), which would become the largest building in the surrounding area.

Ratio’s planners provided valued assistance to the multi-disciplinary design team to ensure that the development achieve a good outcome for the high-profile site. The approved plan positions the larger part of the building towards the western side of the property, achieving substantial setbacks to sensitive residential interfaces to the east and north.

The building height required discussion with Moorabbin Airport to confirm that the building did not interfere with flight paths. Other planning challenges included confirming that there were no issues with gas from nearby closed landfills and ensuring established vegetation was retained. The development will introduce a new generation of planting to the site with a comprehensive landscape plan.

Ratio worked constructively with the City of Kingston planners, with assistance from Invest Victoria, to refine the proposal and move the application to a successful resolution.

Kingston City Council issued the notice of decision to approve a planning permit in June 2022.
