The project
Located on Invermay Road in Mowbray, the proposed childcare centre will provide 109 places for local families, supporting a growing community near the existing primary school and surrounding residential neighbourhood.
Designed by ON Architecture, the centre balances the operational requirements of a modern childcare facility with a thoughtful response to its streetscape and neighbouring properties. The design creates high-quality indoor and outdoor environments that support learning, play and wellbeing.
The project responds to increasing demand for early childhood education infrastructure in Tasmania and reflects our growing expertise across the state.
Our work
Our planning team secured the planning permit for the development, working closely with Launceston City Council and the client to navigate the approval process and shape a proposal that responds to the site’s context and surrounding community.
Our transport team developed the site’s access strategy in collaboration with Council officers, the design team and project consultants. The work required careful consideration of a complex transport environment, including the adjacent primary school and a nearby approved McDonald’s development.
Our landscape architecture team drew inspiration from the native character of the kanamaluka (Tamar Estuary) to create a planting palette unique to the project. Indigenous plant species have been integrated throughout the landscape to support biodiversity, strengthen urban canopy, and create a landscape that supports children’s learning and play.
