The project
Messmate Road is a 1,350 lot master-planned community in Torquay. At this scale, the masterplan draws from the existing coastal character, connecting residents to the natural landscape through parks, wetlands, green streets and trails.
Our work
Our Landscape Architecture team prepared a comprehensive development application and open space strategy for the new precinct. We’re now developing detailed playground design.
The ridgeline trail along the western precinct border gives residents elevated views and a continuous walking route. Two smaller parks punctuate the trail, offering both passive and active amenity framed by rich, textured coastal planting. The two main parks integrate wetlands to manage local stormwater whilst offering recreational amenity through feature playgrounds.
Throughout the development, we established nodes that define different areas, connected by a street tree planting plan that strengthens the public realm and meet 30% urban canopy targets. The planting palette embodies Torquay’s coastal character, with integrated wetland species for both ecological function and visual appeal.
The result is a uniquely integrated landscape network, connecting residents to the iconic coastal landscapes of Torquay.
