The Project
Our transport team was engaged by the City of Greater Geelong to complete a pedestrian and cyclist safety investigation of Bayshore Avenue and the boundary intersections.
The study area includes the 1.6-kilometre-long Bay Shore Avenue corridor between Jetty Road and Clifton Springs Road/ Beacon Point Road in the suburb of Clifton Springs.
Our Work
The study was the result of a Transport Accident Commission (TAC) funding to focus on pedestrian and cyclist safety, when crossing at intersections and moving to and from bus stops.
The Safe System principles and assessment framework aims to incorporate different elements of the transport network working together to aid in the elimination of fatal and serious crash injuries.
The framework is aimed at both road users and road managers and the shared duty to protect and enforce safety so that if driver errors occur, they do not result in high-severity outcomes.
The project involved a Safe System Assessment and observed Movement and Place aspirations to target level of service and safety. New and improved pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure was proposed including dedicating crossings, changes to intersection geometry and new cycling infrastructure.
