The project
Ratio’s Landscape Architecture team have created an inclusive playscape for West Richmond Primary School, shaped by cultural celebration and neurodiversity with a design that supports learning across three languages: English, Vietnamese, and Chinese.
Approximately one-third of West Richmond Primary School’s students experience socioeconomic hardship, are NDIS participants, or reside within the North Richmond Housing Estate. Many families have refugee backgrounds, experiences with trauma, housing insecurity, or are involved with external agencies who provide support for family violence, drug and alcohol addiction or homelessness.
The school’s location adjacent to the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) further underscores the importance of designing a safe and inclusive playscape environment.
Our Work
Our landscape team developed a concept plan for the playscape that thoughtfully integrates support for neurodiversity, embraces multicultural and socioeconomic diversity, and a becomes a space for social protection and inclusion.
