A $38 million warehouse and showroom balancing operational requirements with a strong connection to the adjoining business park.

Ratio brought four specialist teams together to coordinate planning, transport, waste management and landscape architecture for Makita Australia’s new facility in Truganina.

The project

Makita Australia’s $38 million warehouse and showroom is located within Stockland’s Melbourne Business Park Precinct in Truganina.

The industrial development needed to meet the operational and security requirements of a high-value warehouse while responding to Melton City Council’s urban design expectations.

Working with Watson Young Architects, the project team developed a considered façade response that balanced security with visual interest. Variations in materials, cassette lighting and other design elements helped create a strong architectural presence within the business park.

Our work

Makita Australia engaged Ratio across planning, transport, waste management and landscape architecture, bringing specialist expertise together throughout the project.

The project demonstrates the value of an integrated approach to industrial development, where operational, security, access, landscape and urban design considerations need to work together.

Planning

Our planning team worked with Makita Australia, Watson Young Architects and Council to navigate the planning and urban design requirements for the warehouse and showroom.

We focused on finding a practical planning outcome that responded to Council’s expectations while protecting the operational requirements of the site.

Transport

Our transport team provided advice on access and movement requirements for the warehouse and showroom, considering how the development would operate within the broader Melbourne Business Park Precinct.

Waste Management

Our waste management team provided advice to support the operational requirements of the development and integrate waste facilities into the overall site response.

Landscape Architecture

Our landscape architecture team developed the landscape response for the site, considering its relationship with the warehouse, showroom and adjoining park.

The landscape approach helped integrate the development with its setting and create a cohesive outcome across the site
