The impressive sustainable health and wellness centre has been reimagined into a community hub.

The renewal of the NARC is in keeping with the Darebin Council Plan 2017–2021 to expand opportunities for participation and social connection through sport, physical activity, and other leisure activities

The Project

The Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre (NARC) Redevelopment Project by Darebin City Council provides indoor and outdoor swimming pools as well as additional spaces for health and fitness activities.

The NARC will also carry a 6 Green Star rating, the highest rating in the Green Building Council of Australia’s sustainability system.

Our Work

Our transport and waste management teams were engaged to consult on the NARC Redevelopment project in July 2019.

Our waste team participated during the Schematic Design and Design Development stages, which involved the provision of waste management design and strategic advice, as well as a Waste Management Plan (WPM) that satisfied the requirements of Credit 8B of the Green Star Design & As-Built guidelines.

Our transport team assisted with the Town Planning application for the redevelopment, which included a Transport Impact Assessment and Green Travel Plan. Key deliverables included a redesign of the existing car park to facilitate future parking demands (such as Electric vehicle charging spaces and solidified pick-up/drop-off zone), extensive bicycle parking and End of Trip infrastructure, as well as support for the parking provision associated with the site. Ratio also assisted Arup (ESD Consultants) with their Green Star Design and As-Built assessment for the Transport Credits, undertaking a peer review of the Sustainable Transport Calculator.
