Little Creatures Brewery purchased the historic Valley Worsted Mills industrial complex in 2011 as its main brewery and base of operations for the eastern states of Australia.

Since opening its doors in 2013, the brewery’s operation and hospitality offerings have progressively expanded with each new addition taking advantage of the unique setting and industrial heritage of the site.

Project Characteristics

The Hall provides a purpose-built, flexible function space for up to 150 people and complements the existing Little Creatures Canteen and White Rabbit venues.

Our Work

Continuing our relationship with the site, our planning and transport teams worked closely with the Lion Group project team throughout the concept development and planning approval stages, approaching the project with due regard for the heritage fabric of the site.

Our teams successfully navigated the cumulative amenity impacts of the development given the sensitive residential interface to the north of the site. We also finalised the management of increased traffic and car parking demand respecting the working and public aspects of the wider complex.

Our teams also helped navigate the complex planning approval history across the site by developing a holistic application strategy coordinated with the project timeframes set by Lion Group to deliver planning approval on time.

The success of the Furphy Hall and the Little Creatures Brewery sets a benchmark example of the re-use and revitalisation of a key piece of Geelong’s industrial heritage.
