The project sought approval for a modern first-floor addition to the existing childcare centre within the former ‘Old Lady’s School’ building in South Melbourne.

The contemporary addition includes indoor and outdoor play areas concealed behind the existing heritage parapet.

The project

The childcare centre exists within the former ‘Old Lady’s School’. This application sought approval for a contemporary rear first-floor addition, including outdoor play areas concealed behind the existing heritage parapet.

The existing childcare centre required an addition at the rear of the property to increase its capacity and support the projected population growth in the South Melbourne area.

Our work

Our planning team balanced the client’s need to bring the existing centre up to modern standards while respecting the heritage significance.

Working alongside Antarctica Architects, our planning team successfully managed the application to mitigate heritage constraints, avoid public notice and facilitate the timely endorsement of plans.

The project has received permit approval.
