Located in the heart of Melbourne’s education hub, the 22-storey purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development is set to deliver high-quality housing for 382 students.

Our planning team managed the permit amendment process, facilitating the approval of additional rooms and an increased overall height without the need for advertising.

The project

The Switch, Berkeley St is a landmark 22-storey PBSA development located at 680 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Housing 382 students in the heart of Melbourne’s education precinct, this development offers premium student living within walking distance of The University of Melbourne and RMIT University.

Designed by Rothelowman, the development features a mix of studio and shared apartments with high-quality finishes, complemented by extensive communal spaces, wellness facilities, and rooftop amenities. The project thoughtfully integrates heritage façade retention with contemporary design, while ground-floor retail tenancies enhance the local streetscape.

The Switch, Berkeley Street, is currently under construction.

Our Work

Our planning was engaged to undertake a Section 72 amendment allowing for additional student rooms and increasing the permitted height of the development, as well as various other improvements, both internally and externally.

We successfully negotiated with Council to approve the amendment without the need for public advertising.
