The Project
Designed by Martino Leah Architects and Josh Crosbie Architects, this three-to-four-storey development is located within the West Fyans Precinct Structure Plan area. The area is largely undeveloped, and the project expects to revitalise and bring activity to Newtown.
The site consists of four separate lots within the residential growth and mixed-use zones, and the proposed building will be considerably higher than those surrounding it. Further upgrades to the existing laneway through landscaping and undergrounding of powerlines will improve both safety outcomes and the streetscape.
Our Work
Our planning team met with Council early on to ensure a collaborative approach to the development design. They went on to manage the permit application process, continuously consulting with Council’s planning team and responding to Council and objectors’ concerns. Ultimately, this ongoing dialogue resulted in permit approval without the need for VCAT appeals.
Our transport team consulted on the development’s unique parking arrangement on the basement level, seeking a parking reduction for the retail and food and beverage establishments, and our waste management team provided a detailed waste management plan for waste collection at both the basement and ground levels.
Both teams faced concerns from Council and addressed these matters to ensure all departments were comfortable with the proposed solutions.
