The Project
The double-storey, eight-unit community care accommodation building will provide specialist disability accommodation for residents with high care needs under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Adopting a contemporary architectural design, the building will be constructed to the NDIS design standard and will provide communal areas both inside the building and in the landscaped surrounds. On-site carer spaces are included within the building to support the independent living units.
The accommodation is located within an established residential area close to the Croydon Activity Centre and the building form has been adapted to respect the adjoining dwellings while making a quality addition to the streetscape on the prominent corner site.
Our Work
Our planning and transport teams worked collaboratively with Sky Architect Studio to retain an existing Oak tree on site, respond to overland flooding issues, and satisfying Council concern that visitor pick-up and drop-off could be effectively managed.
The case was made that the contemporary design was a ‘cut above’ the standard neighbourhood character response and a permit was received from Council.
