The Canopy

The site is located on the corner of Normanby Road and Johnson Street in South Melbourne.

The multi-storey building will primarily be residential in nature, with various commercial uses provided on the lower levels.

The Project

The site is situated in South Melbourne, within the Fisherman’s Bend urban renewal area.

The multi-storey building will comprise 213 apartments, with various retail and commercial offerings provided on the lower levels.

The Canopy is being delivered alongside a 3,000 sqm park on Johnson Street that will house Melbourne’s first urban Miyawaki forest, incorporating Indigenous Australian species.

Our Work

Our transport team was engaged in early 2022 to assist throughout the town planning process for the proposed mixed-use development.

The application sought to amend the already approved development to deliver an outcome to offer significant improvements on the original scheme.

Our transport team assisted the design process by undertaking swept paths and queuing assessments to inform the site access strategy, culminating in the preparation of a Transport Impact Assessment report for the finalised scheme.

The project required an extensive planning process, ultimately receiving approval for an amended permit through Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA, formerly DELWP).
