The ambitious student accommodation facility will retain the heritage building on site.

The development has two street frontages on Franklin Street and Blender Lane.

The Project

The 39-storey student accommodation development will comprise 1019 beds, 429 sqm of retail floor area,172 bicycle parking spaces, and a basement loading bay, with no on-site car parking.

The site is situated within easy walking distance of the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, and the Queen Victoria Markets.

Our Work

Our transport team had previously worked on the approved Build to Rent Scheme and was initially engaged by Citiplan at the due diligence stage to provide initial advice regarding bicycle parking numbers and loading arrangements.

Once the site was acquired, the team was engaged to advise on a change of use application which involved reviewing the basement loading arrangements, including ramp design and swept paths assessments, and preparing an updated Transport Impact Assessment, Green Travel Plan, and Loading Management Plan.

The heritage building retained at the front of the site limited also access to the proposed basement, so our team had to ensure the loading vehicles could satisfactorily traverse the ramp to the basement.
