The sustainable 72-townhouse development gained approval with zero dedicated private parking spaces on site. Instead, it provides only 8 shared parking spaces and encourages cycling and other sustainable transport alternatives.

Our transport team worked with the client to justify the absence of private parking and support the shared fleet model to gain permit approval.

The project

Delivered in partnership with Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI), Nightingale Housing’s first horizontal community features 72 townhouses. The development includes 5 one-bedroom, 39 two-bedroom, and 28 three-bedroom dwellings.

A defining feature of the project is the absence of any private parking on site. Instead, there are 8 shared parking spaces, comprising 5 car share spaces with electric vehicle charging capabilities, 2 visitor spaces, and one accessible parking space. There is a generous provision of bicycle parking to encourage active alternative transport methods.

Our work

Our transport team completed a traffic impact assessment and designed the green travel plan, successfully justifying the ambitious proposal of zero private parking on site.

Our waste team prepared the waste management plan for the development, ensuring compliance with Council’s requirements., including allowing the Council’s contractor to service the development, avoiding the need for a private contractor. Additionally, to align with Nightingale’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting circular economy principles, our team designed two dedicated recycling rooms, allowing the community to manage and dispose of up to 10 different waste streams and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
