The Project
The purpose of the assessment was to determine the growth-driven traffic generation and distribution for the study area, review changes to traffic volumes and distributions resulting from the construction of the Sorell Southern Bypass and identify transport network changes required to support growth.
The study further centred on the growth area south-east of the current Sorell township.
Our Work
Ratio’s Transport team were engaged by Sorell Council in March 2021 to undertake a strategic transport review of Sorell that considered future growth projections, State Government transport projects (namely the Sorell Southern Bypass), and the function of the Sorell township as a key hub for the wider Tasman Peninsula East Coast area in Tasmania.
A key challenge was assessing how the envisaged growth in the Sorell Eastern Growth Corridor would integrate with the wider area given that the Sorell Southern Bypass would divide the Growth Corridor from the Sorell Township.
There were limited opportunities for the Growth Corridor to connect to the Township and our team’s assessment identified additional transport provisions that would be needed to integrate the Growth Corridor with the surrounding areas.
Our Strategic Transport Network Assessment was adopted by Council as a road network plan for consideration in future planning applications.
