In consultation with the Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) and transport authorities, Ratio’s Transport team prepared a Transport Management Plan for both the 2022 Manikato Stakes and Cox Plate events at Moonee Valley Racing Club for Moonee Valley Racing Club, as well as the event day audit and preparation of a debrief report for the successful planning for future events.

In June 2022, our team was commissioned to manage the transport elements of MVRC’s key racing meet and to ensure the best possible customer experience for patrons travelling to/from the event site in all forms of transport modes.

The Event

The Manikato Stakes took place on the evening of Friday 21 October and the Cox Plate on Saturday 22 October. These events were held at the Moonee Valley Racing Club and Moonee Valley Racecourse.

Our Work

Through detailed consultation with Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) and several transport authorities (Victoria Police, DoT, Moonee Valley Council, Yarra Trams and Metro Trains), Ratio’s Transport team prepared the Transport Management Plan for both the 2022 Manikato Stakes and Cox Plate events at Moonee Valley Racing Club for Moonee Valley Racing Club.

Specifically, the Transport Management Plan provided key event information, road closure timings, VMS information, the accessibility of the site and directional information for all transport modes such as car, public transport, cycling and walking. The TMP also included detailed traffic management plans that provided temporary road signage information and closures, detour routes, traffic controller and Vic Police locations, directional signage and parking signage overlays to best manage the event area whilst also considering the impact on local residents.

Temporary infrastructure was also set up to create a taxi rank and pedestrian-safe areas away from conflicts with motor vehicles.

Following receipt of Council approval and DoT MOA approval for the transport elements of the event, our engagement extended to the provision of an engineer to remain on-site throughout the event period to review the traffic management treatments, liaise with the traffic management contractor and prepare a debrief report to assist with the future planning of this event.

Our team were proud to partner with the Moonee Valley Racing Club and associated stakeholders and assist in the delivery of the events.
