The Tour
The Manchester United players toured Melbourne city streets on an exclusively branded charter tram which departed from the Malvern Depot, transited to a shunt point at Brunswick Road/Lygon Street to collect the players, picked up groups of VIPs at various tram stops along the route and returned to the Federation Square event site where fans waited to receive the players and view the global launch of the Manchester United 22/23 away kit.
Our Work
Ratio’s transport team provided specialist traffic management and transport planning services for the event, coordinating the tram route to minimise disruption to the network, scheduling three safe and managed pickup points for the chartered tram to collect players from Manchester United, media and content personnel, and VIP guests.
Our team coalesced with local transport authorities (Victoria Police, Department of Transport, Yarra Trams and City of Melbourne) to ensure the safe and efficient pickup of players, whilst also delivering contingency shunting plans along the route for the chartered tram. The traffic management strategy culminated in an approval to operate the event with the transport authorities and to provide on-the-ground support via Victoria Police escorts, stop and hold treatments and Yarra Trams tracking technology.
