The Project
The dominant character of Paynesville is that of a fishing village set within beautiful natural surrounds, and the poignance of the town’s foreshore area cannot be overstated as a primary focus of commercial, recreational and tourism activity within the Gippsland Lakes in East Gippsland.
However, the public realm appearance of this area in many places is degraded, outdated and unattractive. The site is dominated by carparking and hardstand, and while some areas have been improved and integrate well, others detract from the adjacent beach foreshore, failing to maximise the setting and historically undervalue the need for a consistent and contemporary approach to streetscape treatment.
Our Work
There is an opportunity to celebrate the town’s location adjacent to a beautiful lake coastline by rationalising open green space and reinforcing a strong sense of town character with new foreshore and streetscape features. By introducing a consistent theme throughout the area to create visual connection and be aesthetically more appealing, Paynesville’s local and visiting community will delight in a much greater sense of place.
